Goal & Definition

A hackerspace or hackspace (from Hacker and Space) is a real (as opposed to virtual) place where people with common interests, usually in science,
technology, or digital or electronic art can meet, socialize and collaborate.

Financing

Wirdorange angeboten. Ein Modell basierend auf Mitgliedsschaft wurde gewählt.

Funding of the C4 is mostly obtained through the monthly member fees; 55 members (50 active, 5 passive) do their part in paying the rent and service
bills. Occasionally, donations or income from hosted events floods into the coffers of C4, and since there is always something that needs fixing or
improving, is greatly appreciated.

Draft of letter to potential enthusiasts

Dear recipient/reader,
The goal of the present letter is to reach out to the creative minds of people
dissatisfied with the ordinary, thrilled by the prospect of using things in a
way they weren't supposed to be.

We plan to create a lieu for hackers to meet, socialize and be creative.
A space bursting with new ideas in the realms of hardware, software, photography,
film, electronics and any other topics lurking at the back of one's mind just
waiting to be implemented.

This Hackerspace (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hackerspace) would be a place to
meet like-minded people, engage in projects, hold or participate in workshops,
give or listen to talks, or simply hang out and have a beer [Oh... ech mengen do
musse mer kucken, do musse mer schon definitiv e Club sinn, soss dierfe mer
daat wuel net?! (soulaang mer et net verkaafen misst daat dach keen problem sinn)]
with people who share your interests.

We want to stress, that his place shall be open to anybody, irrespective of gender,
nationality or interests, as long as they're gripped by creating or taking apart things,
whether they will turn out to be art, new software, interesting hardware, or a new
approach to anything related to science, communication, social interaction or,
for that matter, politics.

If you've never been to such a Hackerspace, we encourage you to have a look at existing
and successful hackerspaces abroad. Among the most popular ones today are the Metalab
in Vienna (http://metalab.at/wiki/Folder:V5a-en), the C4 in Cologne
(https://koeln.ccc.de/) or the C-Base in Berlin (http://www.c-base.org/).

We feel that creating a similar infrastructure in Luxembourg would be a chance for the
local but also inter-regional culture, youth as well as businesses who could - and should
be encouraged to - support and harness the potential and creativity that will
flourish in such a space.
  • will try to get support from state-government, city-government
  • from metalab folder: "space for free exchange of information, and collaboration between technical-creative Enthusiasts, Hackers and Founders. The Lab is dedicated to providing Infrastructure for projects and offers a physical space for interested people from the wide fields of IT, new media, and hacker culture."
  • will act as a non-profit org.
We have assembled a collection of in-detail information at the following URL: http://mallory.lu/wiki/

We would also greatly appreciate if you could forward this letter, talk to other people you
think could be interested and get in touch with us.

Your critical feedback will help us to continue our efforts in getting things done.
