Every day now, people want secure access to their banking services; to public services for passports, driving licenses, tax-on-Web; to auctions or online shops, etc. This generally requires proof of certain credentials. An identity card can serve as such in many cases in the paper world. However, to establish that one is between 12 and 15 years old as might be required to access a teenage chat, using a traditional identity card would also reveal to the chat side all the other information on the card. In order to facilitate in the digital environment methods that would allow disclosure only of what is really needed, technology has been developed for Minimal Data Disclosure. In this Seminar the two most important current MDD technologies will be presented by their distinguished creators: 1. Jan Camenisch from IBM, Zürich (http://www.zurich.ibm.com/~jca/). He will present Identity Mixer (idemix) (see http://idemix.wordpress.com/ ), an anonymous credential system developed at IBM Research that enables strong authentication and privacy at the same time. The application is available under Open Source license. 2. Stefan Brands, Credentica and Microsoft (http://www.credentica.com/). He will present U-prove, based on another technology but aiming at the same objectives as idemix. At the RSA Conference 2010, Microsoft released a specification of the U-Prove technology under its Open Specification Promise, open source reference toolkits in C# and Java, and a Community Technology Preview of the integration of U-Prove into the Windows identity platform. These lectures will highlight the functional specifications, the technologies behind the two methods, and the work that is ongoing and planned to come to a joint open platform for Minimal Data Disclosure implementation in ID management. A third speaker of SnT (Group Peter Ryan) will highlight ongoing work that could relate to the above activities for future improved implementations. The three presentations will be followed by ample time for discussion on all aspects considered relevant. We particularly welcome participation of SnT's industrial partners, given the high relevance of open standards for privacy protecting authentication for access to services and facilities in the future digital environment.
