how you can boost the limited hardware by adding stuff or more originally by just using programming wizardry

After the introduction to history and showing off some programs, games and demos, this time we will dive more into the hardware itself. Some explanations of how it's built up, especially focussing on the CPU, the video chip and the sound chip.

What people came up to make the machine better:

    • add ram
    • add realtime clock
    • add screen size

Knowing what can be done with computers looking at the C64 and various game consoles as well as the concurrency from the Amiga, programmers took up the challenge to push the machine to it's limits and beyond. Here we will explain how each feat can be realized in respect to the available hardware. This will not yet detail how to make those effects fast.

    • scrolling
    • distorter
    • digisound
    • sprites
    • colors
    • higher resolution
    • scrolling way too much
    • lines, faces and 3D

Exercise: we will chose one effect and try to implement it. There's pre made source code, grafics and sound to get started quickly.
