A hackerspace is a place where people with similar interests in technology, science, art, culture, and making meet. Activities are not in the slightest restricted to only computer science, but also emerge from electronics, contemporary art, photography, and any and all other pursuits worth sharing. The hackerspace offers a turnkey infrastructure to its members where innovative projects that would not come to life in a garage, can find nourishment and support.

Membership

The minimum membership fee for individuals is 114€/year[1]. Please note that this is a minimum fee that should allow everyone to attend the hackerspace and that the actual amount of your contribution is to be self-determined according to your priorities and financial ability. The membership runs from March 1st to the end of February.

Your contribution can be split up into at most 12 payments. Becoming a member means that you agree to support the hackerspace with at least 114€ a year. If you join in mid-year, the membership fee runs until the end of February at 9.5 EUR13.239 $
8.283 £
11.589 CHF
/month. The administrative council can decide to grant an exemption from paying membership dues to a member in financial difficulties.

In addition to paying for regular expenses, the money goes towards paying for members' projects, as decided by the office after presentation on our bootstrap meetings. Every member can suggest an expenditure to be voted on.

Other Associations

We encourage and welcome other assocations to use our facilities for holding meetings or working on projects.

The minimum usage fee for associations is 9.5 EUR13.239 $
8.283 £
11.589 CHF
/meeting-day
, regardless of the number of members. That is, each day a meeting is held in the hackerspace costs 9.5 EUR13.239 $
8.283 £
11.589 CHF
. This entitles all members of the association to 24 hours of access to the hackerspace on that day and, if possible and desired, gives the association private usage of one of the rooms in the space for up to 5 hours. Associations are limited to four meetings per month to ensure continued availability of the space to regular members.

What is the space worth to you?

Every association and individual should determine the membership fee by it-, him- or herself. That is, decide the actual amount of contributions according to their own capacities and space "usage", as well as by how much they're able and willing to contribute to financing the hackerspace and the projects carried out therein.

Why support syn2cat?

syn2cat is a non-profit organization that lives off it's membership fees and our supporters' donations. Your financial (or material) support helps run the association, finance projects and organize workshops for youth.

You may also choose to become a donating member, which means that you pay a regular membership fee plus a supplementary amount of your choice. You'd do us an even bigger favour by setting up a recurring payment. Donating members will receive a little extra with their membership card.

Sounds cool, how can I join?

In order to become a member, you have to read our application form and agree to its terms. You can then become a member by filling out the form on page 3, having it signed by a full syn2cat member, giving it to a member of the administrative council (for example during a bootstrap meeting) and paying your membership fee. Membership starts on the receipt of your fee. After 3 months, you will be granted the status of a "full member", entitling you to benefit from all privileges that come with a full membership, most importantly your own key.

How can I pay my membership fees?

Account-Holder: syn2cat a.s.b.l.
BIC/SWIFT: BCEELULL
IBAN: LU93 0019 3255 6612 9000

Please include "membership fee" and state if it is a "monthly, standing order" or a "one-time payment for X months" and your nickname as reason of payment.

What else should I do as a member?

The hackerspace being run by its members (their financial as well as their intellectual contributions) means that we really value your commitment. Therefore, we expect every member to become part of at least one of our Working Groups. There is no need to hurry, but a couple months in, you should consider joining the one or the other group. Why not browse the groups right away?
